Plantations International’s 100 Acre plantation 2 hours north of Bangkok at Lao Khwan district in Kanchanburi.  A place made famous by the movie “The Bridge on the River Kwai” in 1957 starring William HoldenAlec GuinnessJack Hawkins, and Sessue Hayakawa.

Congratulations to all our hard working staff at Plantations International Thailand for achieving this milestone and becoming the first and only Mango plantation in Thailand to reach the final audit for the PEFC Forestry Management Certification. A job well done to ALL!

Next for Thailand will be the Chain of Custody certification. – “To earn PEFC Chain of Custody certification, companies must develop and implement procedures to account for the purchasing, tracking, manufacturing, sale and recordkeeping of certified materials. PEFC Chain of Custody certification complements PEFC sustainable forest management certification, which assures that forests are managed in line with challenging environmental, social and economic requirements”.

“The stewardship and use of forests and forest lands in a way, and at a rate, that maintains their biodiversity, productivity, regeneration capacity, vitality and their potential to fulfil, now and in the future, relevant ecological, economic and social functions, at local, national, and global levels, and that does not cause damage to other ecosystems.” As defined by Forest Europe and adopted by the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

Given the importance of forests to the planet, sustainable management is essential to ensure society’s demands don’t compromise the resource. Sustainable forest management offers a holistic approach to ensure forest activities deliver social, environmental and economic benefits, balance competing needs and maintain and enhance forest functions now and in the future. Forest certification is the tool to prove this and to connect the consumer with the sustainable origins of their products.
