New Publication Explains Global Oilseed And Grain Trade

The U.S. Soybean Export Council’s (USSEC) Competitiveness Committee recently completed an extremely useful publication titled How the Global Oilseed and Grain Trade Works. This publication was completed in cooperation with Soyatech and HighQuest Partners, who have an intimate knowledge of the grain and oilseed trading business.

The publication serves as an educational document for those interested in bettering their understanding of the trade, for those investing or wanting to invest in the commodities trade and for those interested in improving the competitiveness of U.S. soybean products both domestically and internationally. The analysis fully describes the business decision-making process for the soybean product value chain from producers, grain elevators, global grain merchandisers, grain traders and to overseas buyers from feed manufacturers to end users. At each point in the value chain, a detailed analysis matrix provides information on the variables taken into consideration for buying and selling a commodity in a local and international market. This publication also illustrates the complexity of the oilseed and grain trade and identifies factors in the process that can be addressed to increase the competitiveness of U.S. soybeans and soybean products.
