Mango Prices in the U.S. Hit Unprecedented Levels

The U.S. relies on mango imports primarily from South America during the winter months. Mango production in Peru and Ecuador has been significantly impacted by the El Niño phenomenon, which led to elevated temperatures during the critical flowering stage and thereby exerted a detrimental effect on overall yields. A compounding factor exacerbating the challenges faced by the Peruvian mango industry is the decline in production within the Áncash region which has caused significant economic losses within the sector, as reported by the Service for Comprehensive Rural Development (Sedir). War in Ukraine Pushes Food Prices to Record High: FAO

The surge in food prices accelerated after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in late February. Russia and Ukraine are major exporters of wheat and corn. Global food prices have hit record levels in the wake of the Ukraine war, the latest data from the Food and Agriculture Organization shows, raising concerns over food security and the conflict's impact on vulnerable populations across the world. The Agricultural Water Summit, the first event focused on the water crisis affecting the agricultural industry, has announced a new date in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.
